The vertical format draws the eye upwards: it elevates the room, dresses narrow walls and gives ceilings room to breathe.

A vertical painting plays with architecture. By guiding the eye from bottom to top, it creates an impression of height, even in a room with an ordinary ceiling. It is the format for the walls we never know how to dress: the narrow stretch between two windows, a hallway wall, the corner of an entrance.
In Régine Gardan’s work, the vertical is often the direction of movement: colour rises, streams or climbs like a flame. Hung at eye level, the canvas becomes a breath within the room.
Anywhere width is missing and height is waiting to be underlined. In an entrance, it welcomes and sets the tone of the home. In a hallway, a series of two or three verticals creates a walk. Next to a door or a mirror, it balances the composition of the wall.
Deep shades take on a particular strength in this format: an elegant black structures a contemporary interior, a green brings the calm of a forest, a pink softens a room that feels too mineral.
