A mountain cabin already has its own warmth: the wood, the light off the snow, the evening fire. What it still needs is a colour that answers the landscape beyond the window. An abstract canvas by Régine Gardan finds its place there naturally, between the beams, above a bench or facing the big picture window.

They Live With Her Paintings
I ordered a canvas and the result is magnificent. A unique piece that perfectly enhances my home. I’m delighted and highly recommend it!

In 2022 I acquired a painting by Régine, while giving a hand to move her paintings. I got to admire many of her works that day. There are all kinds of emotions conveyed with power or softness. This style gives a lot of personality to an interior.

Quality paintings for anyone who appreciates abstract art! Théo keeps his mother's legacy alive with passion and has a sense of service that is rare these days. Highly recommended if you're looking to beautify your home.

Some works in the collection carry the mountains in their name and in their colours. “Himalaya” lays a line of midnight blue ridges beneath a vast pearl-grey sky. “Mer Alpine” sets mountain-lake blues vibrating, shot through with a burst of colour. “Hiver Éternel” plays on beiges, sands and browns, very close to the tones of the wood. See also the abstract landscapes and the nature-inspired paintings.

A wooden wall is already a colour, often warm and golden. Two approaches are open to you. Extend that warmth with ochres, beiges and browns, like those of “Hiver Éternel”: the whole becomes soft and enveloping. Or set the wood against blues and greys, as in “Himalaya”: the canvas stands out and draws the eye. The chemist Michel-Eugène Chevreul described it in 1839 in De la loi du contraste simultané des couleurs: two colours placed side by side look more different than when seen apart, and the effect peaks between complementary colours, such as orange and blue.
A cabin or a holiday home sometimes stays closed for weeks. Choose an interior wall for the canvas, out of direct sunlight, away from the stove and the fireplace: Smithsonian conservators point out that the heat and soot of a fireplace damage a painting. The varnish that protects each canvas by Régine Gardan shields it from dirt and humidity, again according to the Smithsonian. Our care tips give the simple habits for the years ahead, and our guide to hanging a painting covers the right fixings.

Let the wood bring the warmth, and leave the colour to one or two strong pieces. A canvas in blues and greys stands out against wood, a canvas in ochres and browns extends its softness. Hang it on an interior wall, away from the stove and the fireplace, whose heat and soot damage a painting according to the Smithsonian.
With few objects, ones that tell the story of the place: a canvas that recalls the sea, the mountains or the surrounding countryside gives a room its character. Choose an interior wall, out of direct sunlight, which dulls pigments over time. Régine Gardan's abstract landscapes, hand-painted in oil, are unique pieces.
